Navaratri

The Nine Nights Of the Goddess Half-Yearly Purification – Sharirshuddi Fall 2008 (Sept. 30 to Oct. 8)

Inner cleansing practices should be done twice a year at the end of the two major seasons of the year: winter and summer. During the cold and hot seasons, doshas may get vitiated. Spring and Fall appear to be ideal moments set by Nature to get rid of these imbalances. The times suggested for personal semestrial purification correspond to Navaratri which occurs during the vernal and autumnal equinoxes.

The word Navaratri is a sanskrit word which means nine nights. During Navaratri, it is said that the Goddess – who is the Divine Mother - comes to earth to bestow her blessings to all her children. She brings everything that is enjoyed in this world: wealth, intelligence, happiness, material enjoyment and complete positivity. Greet Her with faith and devotion.

During Navaratri, Hindus revere the nine forms of the feminine power (Shakti) through fast and various forms of worship. It is also possible to divide Navaratri into sets of 3 days to worship different aspects of the Divine Mother while the tenth day is one of personal victory over oneself.

In Ayurveda, Navaratri is not to be overlooked. Ayur ClubTM recommends an increase of consciousness during this very special period for resetting life on the rails of health and happiness.

Ayur ClubTM Navaratri

A period of introspection and purification, Navaratri is traditionally an auspicious time for starting new ventures. Observe partial fasting on the 9 days of Navaratri (same as for Saptacharya with the difference that salt is permitted). Decide on a special sadhana (spiritual practice... and celebrate the 10th day as a day of personal Victory.
